Phobias are intense emotional reactions to a stimuli; there are a huge number of recognised phobias. Some common ones include:
Agrophobia – fear of open spaces Arachnophobia – fear of spiders Claustrophobia – fear of enclosed places Aerophobia – fear of flying Aichmophobia – fear of needles or pointed objects Haemophobia – fear of blood
There are many more. The impact upon lives can range from slight - something that seldom occurs and can be easily avoided, to severe - when an individual has to drastically change their behaviour to avoid exposing themselves to the object of the phobia. It is a natural human reaction to avoid these unpleasant sensations and so it is usual that a person with a phobia will go to great lengths if need to avoid it. It is interesting to note that a phobia is not governed or controlled with the rational, conscious mind. Otherwise ending your phobia would be as easy as thinking it away. As with most human behaviour it is driven by emotion.
Hypnosis speaks in the language of the subconscious
The good news is that such an intense and specific phobia can be quickly and easily dealt with using hypnosis. Hypnotherapy excels when dealing with the subconscious mind – the seat of emotions. In fact hypnosis directly deals with the subconscious and the imagination.
